                                                          Life In The Cabin

Many people see the glamor of exotic destinations, & traveling when they think of flight attendants. Pilots aren't the only ones lucky enough to fly the friendly skies. They also not the only ones making sure you get into your destination safely. Behind every flight attendant's smile, there's someone making sure you have a smooth, safe ride. In the event of an emergency, it's up to the flight attendant to guide you through safely.

The job of a flight attendant may seem glamorous, but its a lot of work. They have a lot of preflight duties, mid flight, & post flight duties they have to conduct. Behind the scenes its all about your safety in mind. Before the passengers board, they get a briefing from the captain. Flight attendants then do safety checks. They check oxygen bottles first, first aid kit, heart defibrillator, life raft equipment, & communication PA system. They check to make sure the aircraft is ready for passengers by checking the seats & seat backs. They also check bathroom amenities, & catering. Every flight has a lead flight attendant who is the supervisor or purser. That person reports direct to the captain.

Before the plane takes off, flight attendants instruct all passengers in the use of emergency equipment, and check to see that seat belts are fastened, seat backs are in upright positions, and all  carry-on items are stowed. Once in the air, they help passengers in the event of an emergency. Safety related actions may range from reassuring passengers during rough weather to directing passengers who must evacuate off the airplane following an emergency landing. The next time you see a flight attendant, just remember they're not there to just give you a crappy meal, but are a vital safety component.
