Psychology of fear is Man's insecurity, and fear of something rather its  pain or  death. A person's fear of flying is similar to a combat soldiers fear of death. A soldier may feel two types of reaction to war. One is cowardice which is yielding to your fear, or courage under fire which gives you an adrenalin rush which is controlled fear. One of the reasons soldiers march into military formation is to overcome fear & insecurity. Also, it helps soldiers face their fear together. Similarly, fearful fliers can overcome fear of flying by facing their fear
of flying with other passengers, seat mates, & crew.
                              

People are naturally scared of darkness. Lonely places cause fright. When you are on an airplane, you feel that same sense of loneliness because you feel different because you feel you are the only one on the aircraft thats afraid to fly. Most often, thats not the case.

Fear begins only when we accept that we are not capable of facing up to a crisis situation.
Those who have confidence in their capacity to negotiate difficult times, meet their problems head on, & believe they possess optimistic views, will be able to successfully banish all fear from their mind. You could learn to overcome your fear of flying by learning to trust the industry. Also, you should face your fears with others rather a fear of flying group, therapist, or relatives as moral support when you decide to fly.
I describe FEAR as F=Force E=Evidence A=Appearing R=Real. Basically, what this means is stop giving credit to something that's not real such as an over hype of fear of flying when its not justified. For example, it is common see to a person with a fear of flying, but no fear fear of going to a doctor were malpractice averages 195,000 deaths a year. What about that same person having no fear of lightening which kills over thousand a year.
Lets look at the combat soldier again. They train themselves not to worry as much about how they're going to die in battle, or when compared to being more concern about failing their mission & comrades which would lead to more causalities. If you are willing to give control of your life to a doctor in a hospital, then you are more better & safer giving up control to the pilot on an airplane who is just as equally trained in years of experience as   a doctor.



The following example below is a true story.............
                                                                                      

He was a successful man who through hard work and perseverance built up his own business. His wife, too, owned her business. They had two fine children.

He traveled frequently, and because of an odd premonition that he would someday die in an airplane crash, he refused to fly. For shorter trips he drove his car. For longer trips, he took trains, and even boats, to his destinations.

One spring night a pilot of a small plane experienced a complete engine failure. On top of that, he lost his electrical system, and with it, the use of his radio and navigation instruments. Mist filled the sky. The moon had not yet risen. The plane went down helplessly and blindly in the darkness.

Though injured, the pilot survived the crash. He still cannot remember anything that happened as the plane struck the ground and plowed into a motel just outside of a large town. There was only one casualty: a man sleeping safely in the bed of his motel room. On that sad night, that man’s life-long premonition that he would someday die in an airplane crash found its conclusion.
